The Mystery is Solved

By Christine Thackeray
There is nothing like holding the very first copy of your book, seeing all your hard work actually make it into a physical form and knowing you are the only person to hold a copy. It's a little heady. But with my latest book "C. S. Lewis: Latter Day Truths in Narnia" it didn't quite happen that way. Last week Bevan told me he was going to send me the copies of my new book. Well, they didn't come. Day after day I checked the mail but they simply didn't appear. Now you may know that we just moved but they weren't at the old house either. When Tristi Pinkston said she had gotten a copy of my book and wanted to review it, I was surprised and saddened because she had a copy before I did-- that just seemed wrong.

Then this afternoon we were working on the garage and there underneath boxes of food storage was the box of my books. I was delighted to finally have the clean smelling crisp pages in my hands and sat down right there to read it again, amazed at how good it was. I'm really happy with it. When Sarah, my ten year old, saw me engrossed on the garage floor reading, she came up to me and said, "Oh, good, I forgot to tell you they came about a week ago." I looked at her stupified. I was certain I had told all my children that I had been waiting anxiously for them. Then my teenage son walked into the garage. "I've been meaning to tell you I put your box there- sorry," he said apologetically.

So the mystery is solved. Bevan did mail them and they did arrive so for the record I think I got my copies before Tristi- I just didn't know it.

Oh, my word! Kids just don't have a clue, do they? That was quite a mystery, and your book looks fabulous! I can hardly wait to look in my garage for my copy! ;o)

I'm so glad you found them! I was starting to feel bad that I had one and you didn't.

I CAN"T believe that your own kids wouldn't get how truly important this is! I guess only another author would know.

That is quite a story. Kids are so funny that way. Glad your mystery was solved. How frustrating, though.
